A no start condition on the E-39 can be diagnosed with an ODBII scan tool or by the dealer with the factory software. There is no emergency fuel cut off switch, however for safety reasons, BMW does shut off the B+ to the fuel pump if there is an airbag activation and can be cleared by cycling the key off and on. It may have a need for an EWS alignment as this is what BMW calls drive-away protection. Sometimes when there is an extreme voltage excursion or if the battery goes flat, the alignment procedure needs to be performed.
