1987 BMW 325 6 cyl 90,000 miles

I have a 1987 325 BMW and I recently changed the battery as the light came on. The battery light hasn't gone off and the car won't start. I am a widow and have no idea about cars. I just don't want to get ripped off by the mechanic and I was wondering whart could be wrong.

Hi there,

You will need to get the alternator charge rate checked. This is a simple job that will take only a Minuit or two to check. If the alternator is faulty asks for a quote first and then may be get a second quote to compare.

The Bosch alternators usually wear out the brushes before anything else goes bad. I recommend replacement of the voltage regulator/brush pack part number 13-31-1-726-022.
