A few details before my question. The blend door actuator motor continuously spins and I'm unsure if this has caused the male fitting on the blend door to break or if the fitting on the blend door breaking is why the actuator sprocket motor continues to spin?

I have been trying to avoid pulling the dash off to replace the blend door for the small broken piece on the fitting, so I have repaired it twice well enough to work for a little while but now I'm not sure if the continually spinning sprocket is what is causing it the piece to break again or is that sprocket motor supposed to constantly spin if there's no resistance because a small piece of plastic of the fitting breaks off?

Or in other words if I disconnect the actuator motor sprocket from the blend door itself but leave it connected to the electrical it will spin continually without any adjustment of the knobs on the dash. Is that normal?

I do not want to go through replacing the blend door and have the actuator motor break off the new fitting because it keeps spinning and it's not supposed to.

Possible both parts need replacing but throwing my question out 1st.

Thanks

I think your fear is correct. It is normal for it to spin because what happens when they strip is it is looking for the full travel. It runs through a calibration process just so it knows the stopping points for when you are changing the temp otherwise it would not know where to stop the door. So when it doesn't have any resistance, it just keeps looking for it.

Unfortunately it is hard to know for sure what is happening until we get in there and find out.

The "resistance" was my main question. So I think the actuator motor is working like it should be and if I replace the blend door for the broken fitting it should solve the problem.

Thanks.
