Not long driving the car only after a few miles the engine chugged like tractor and bellowed out black smoke. My mechanic looked at it and said someone had replaced the emc unit and wired it wrong so they "fixed it". I drove it and the same thing happened again. Do you have any suggestions? Once it is chugging and black smoke it will not drive.
Thankyou for any help you can give me.

You wil have to scan for codes if any then check fuel pressure with a gauge auto parts rent it. also check for vacuum leaks.

Hi Rebecca10,

Here is a link to an article that features written step by step instructions and pictures explaining how to do the scan yourself, also I have included a link to our YouTube channel with a how to video on code scanning. Most scanners are inexpensive to purchase, you can purchase one online from sites like Amazon.com. Once you have the codes please get back to us so that we can further assist you. We are always happy to help.
