Hi! I’m sorry to bother but I have the car listed above and recently put in a new battery but I'm having a problem with it going from not starting at all to the dash lighting up but the engine not turning on at all.

Hi,

You are no bother at all. That's why we're here. LOL

As far as the problem, if the battery is charged, does the engine run and then slowly drain the battery until it won't run?

Let me know.

Joe

I really appreciate it! So, I had it jumpstarted, and it ran for a short amount of time before shuttting off again and at this point it won’t actually run unless it’s being jumpstarted.

Hi,

It sounds like the battery isn't being charged. As a result, the battery will run the engine until it gets too weak, at which time it will stall and not restart.

Here is what I need you to do. We need to charge the battery, so we have the ability to make it run on its own. This won't work if jumper cables are attached.

Here is a link that explains how to charge the battery:

If you don't have a charger, most parts stores will charge it free of charge and also check the battery.

All you need is a multimeter or a voltmeter. We need to determine the voltage at the battery with the engine off and then compare it to when the engine is running. That will tell us if the alternator is doing its job (I don't think it is).

If we determine it isn't, we will need to remove the alternator and have it bench tested at a parts store. If it fails, it will need to be replaced. If it passes the test, then chances are the powertrain control module is faulty. The alternator is regulated through this module.

Here are directions for testing the alternator. Follow this and let me know what you find.

Please let me know if you have questions or if I can help in any way.

Take care,

Joe
