I have been told that I need a new power steering pump. Is this hard to replace? Any advice regarding rebuilt pumps? The vehicle had 125k miles

No, it is not hard to replace, if you know what you are doing or have a repair manual to guide you through it.
Rebuilts from a reputable parts place will probably be fine.
You have been told and what lead them to come to that conclusion? Just curious.

There was a whinning noise periodically coming from the engine. They said it was coming from the ps pump.
