Please help! Our vehicle won't start. A couple of days ago I locked myself out of the van. We were able to break into it, but it set off the anti-theft again. So, we unhooked the battery cables so the lights would quit blinking whenever we stopped somewhere. It started right up and drove fine. Until we tried to start it a few hours later and go home. It wouldn't start and all the lights were blinking.

Hi,

Does this vehicle have navigation? If it does, do you have the 4-digit security code? Also, is it indicating the code needs to be used?

Next, if there is no navigation, in the fuse box under the dash, remove the PCM backup fuse for approximately 1 minute and then reinstall it to see if that resets things.

Let me know.

Joe

Hi Joe, I'm sorry the computer cut me off yesterday before I could finish my original question. It's not the radio code it is asking for or the radio code. Let me give u a little bit of background. In this situation. My in-laws gave us this vehicle about 2 months ago. They had driven it until the starter messed up on it and then ended up parking it a few years ago. So, 2 months ago, they told us that if we wanted to spend the money to fix it, we could have it. My son had recently changed the ignition switch on it. This initiated the beginning of our anti-theft problems. The new ignition switch meant a new key, so we ended up taking it to Honda and having it coded to get it to start. So now we have a running vehicle just no key that will unlock doors and also no key fob. About a month ago my husband locked the keys in the car, and we had to call a lock smit h to help up get in it. So that set off the antitheft again except it would still run. The horn doesn't work on this van so basically the only thing that was going off was the headlights when we turned the van off. So, my husband just started undoing the battery cable when we got to where we were going after a little bit the antitheft stopped going off. No idea why it just did, so for a little bit we were fine. Fast-forward to 2 days ago. I locked the keys in the van. My husband was able to get in and the anti-theft started going off again, blinking lights just like before. And it started and we drove it but later that night after we got back home it wouldn't start so I'm figuring it just went further into anti-theft mode. Since then we have found the key to the doors and have tried to unlock the doors with it but none of those things are working. The thing I haven't tried is taking the fuse out because I'm not sure which fuse it is and can't find it in the owner's manual. So, are there any specific patterns of unlocking doors with me in the seat or locking the door and stepping so many feet away from it? These are a couple of things I've seen do online, but I'm stumped on what I need to do or tell him to do to completely reset this.
Thanks!

If you found the original key, it isn't going to be recognized by the antitheft because it has been programmed to recognize the new key you installed.

Here is what I recommend. What I need you to do is scan the can-bus. CAN stands for controller area network. Basically, all the computers/modules are tied together via a few wires. A traditional OBD2 scanner will only identify powertrain codes. When you perform this type of scan, it will identify trouble codes regardless of the module they are stored in.

I can't guarantee it will identify any or if any are stored, but if they are present, it should do it.

Here is a link showing what I am referring to:

Let me know if that is something you can have done.

Take care,

Joe

Thank you for getting back to me. I haven't tried that yet, but if there's a chance it can correct the problem or at least lead me in the right direction I'll definitely be getting one. The link you sent mentioned purchasing one on amazon so that will take a couple of days to get in. I did try all the things mentioned yesterday but still no go. Could it be any other thing besides the anti-theft?
Thanks.

Hi,

First, you are very welcome. You may want to call around to see if someone has a scan tool as mentioned to save a few dollars, but that is your call.

As far as the issue, since the lights are flashing, it really sounds like it is related to the anti-theft. I can't guarantee it, but it certainly seems that way.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions. Also, let me know if I can help in any way.

Take care,

Joe
