hi, just wanted to drop a line and say that this is a great website with tons of great info.
I drive a 1995 Range Rover Classic, 4.2L V8 and encounter the following problem: at 60mph or above and above 2Krpm, the temp. gauge rises slowly to the red...when driving slow and below 2Krpm the temp. gauge goes back to normal.
I already replaced new radiator&fan, temp. sender and termostat. can you suggest where else to look?

Welcome on board even if you drive on the wrong side!!

It sounds like you have an air lock in the engine. Some of those engines need to be bled to insure all the air is out. Let me know

losone: thank you for yr reply. do you mean I should bleed the cooling system at the top of the neck thats coming up beside the intake planium...right after engine start, when engine is still cool?

another probably related issue: when the engine is warm, at idle the rpm is very irregular, 900rpm down to 500rpm, up to 700rpm etc...plus there is a clicking noise from the engine which I beleive to be the hydraulic lifters/tappets...is it worth the trouble/cost to replace those...the noise has not gone worse over the last year...but its just there and annoying. in addition there is liquid coming out from the exhaust, I beleive the engine is running to rich...what can I do about that? my range rover has done about 50.000miles and only very short trips everytime between 10-20 miles per tip max. during its lifetime...she is a garage lady but I wanna get her up to speed...

The engine has to be warm and the T-stat open. There is a beled port somewhere on the engine so air can be released from the system and prevent cavation. (bubbles in the coolant) which will cause overheating. Good luck
