:x :x :x I need a tech if possible to email me the importance of the water pump related to the belt on a 1999 Daewoo Lanos ES. I took my car to have the timing belt set. The head job was complete all they needed to do was set timing. They charged me 200.00 to do the job. Then they called me and said that it had a major vacum leak and that the sylinoid injector seals, plemum was leaking. When I had the car towed to the Automotive service shop I made sure that every part, bolt, pullys, sensors, gaskets was there. the mechanic working on my car installed the injector seals with out notifying me until it was done. The seals were in the box with the manual from ADATA. But since he did it with out checking I didnt want to be charged for him to remove the seals.they notified me that there still was a vacum leak. Then they notfied me that there was an oil leak from the valve cover. Now if your still following me. Before the started the job I told him to pull the water pump since every thing was off and it would be easy to get to. Because the water pump is part of tention for the timing belt along with the idler pully.
Sorry I did'nt mean to get off the track. I was wondering if there is anyone who knows about this suject or has done a head job on a daewoo and can explain the impact and importance of the water pump and the timing. I know they are throw away cars and all that is said about these cars but unfortunatlly I have one sitting in my garage. with over $1500 into it.
Much Appreciated>> Ally

The water pump is part of the pulley system for the timing belt. When the belt is removed and the belt retensioned,it will take out the bearings in the water pump 9 out of 10 times. Its always a good idea to replace the pump when the belt has been removed.Other than that you just have to be sure the factory cam and crank marks are lined up when the belt is reinstalled and tension is set

Suggested Repair

Replace the water pump whenever the timing belt is removed, because retensioning often damages the pump bearings. Align the factory cam and crank marks and set belt tension correctly.

Conversation Summary

The owner of a 1999 Daewoo Lanos asked how the water pump relates to timing-belt service after a head job. The expert explained that the pump is part of the timing-belt pulley system and should be replaced when the belt is removed, and that the cam and crank marks must be aligned with tension set. The owner later said a new pump had been installed.
