I have a 94 Ranger Supercab w/ a 4.0L pushrod V6. It has almost 280000 miles on it. I was changing the oil and noticed coolant leaking from the back of the engine. I cannot pin point the exact area of the leak but it seems to be coming from somewhere between the valve cover and the top of the oil filter assembly. It doesn't appear to be coming from the "freeze plug" in the rear of the head. Could anyone tell me what else could be leaking coolant on the rear of the engine? Maybe a head gasket? Truck seems to still be running o.K. But I really haven't driven it since finding the leak. It does seem to be smoking a little more than usual. Thanks.

The smoke you probly see is from the coolent leaking down onto the engine most like I would say. Or if you have a bad gasket it could be leaking down onto the engine and that will smoke like nuts check your gaskets make sure they are all properly seeled and no leaks if you see oil on the back of the head cover then I would replace the gasket if not then I dont know to teriable much about coolent placements and stuff but I do with gaskets I have replaced many afew

good luck
