Battery load test is when a machine simulates a draw on the battery, similar to a starter motor but for a longer controlled draw for a specific amount of time. Then the machine will measure how the battery recovers from being drawn on to see if it is good or not.
Starter, using the same machine as battery test, the amp draw lead is placed on the positive cable to the starter and the ignition system disabled. The vehicle is cranked for a specified amount of time (machine will tell) then it measures the amount of amperage it takes to turn the starter motor.
