I have a 1998 Lumina with 94000 miles and this morning it would not start. The battery is new, lights go on, radio works etc but the engine does not turn over. My neighbor a mechanic check the starter and it's ok. He was thinking an ignition problem?

When you say that it wont start, do you mean it is cranking over but will not start?

I don't think you have an ignition problem mainly because you day the car will not even crank over. First I would have the battery checked at a local auto parts store. If the battery is good then you need to check all the electrical connections between the starter and battery. If they are good the you need to check the ignition switch to see if you are getting voltage on the start wire when the ignition is placed in the start position. This is the wire going to the starter(the little wire that attaches to the starter which is energized when you turn your ignition switch to the start position) using a voltage meter disconnect the start wire and attach your meters positive lead to it and the negative to a good ground. Try and start the car and see if you are getting voltage. No voltage then your problem is either with the ignition switch or the wire from the switch to the starter. Good luck.
