A few months ago, all oil leaked out at accumulator and made compressor lock up! So, I replaced Compressor, accumulator, condenser, orifice tube, all Motorcraft parts. Also, replaced all four A/C lines with aftermarket ones, and then I flushed out evaporator with flushing kit and liquid flush. Then I checked the oil level in the new compressor, and it seemed low I got 4 ounces out of it so I added about 2-3 ounces more and then installed it. It calls for 7 ounces for system. Then I evacuated the system for about 3 hours. Then I charged the system with 2 14 ounce cans of R134a Readings on gauge look okay and A/C works, but vent temperature is about 48-50 degrees on low-speed blower and before it would always run at 40 degrees no problem. I am a retired Ford Technician. Any ideas?

Hi,

It sounds like you did everything by the book. What pressures are you getting and what is the outside temperature? I remember there was a TSB related to reduced cooling due to the A/C relay sticking shut which prevented the compressor from cycling. As a result, it caused the evaporator to turn ice by reducing air flow and cooling. Is the compressor cycling normally?

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe

Outside temperature is about 75 degrees, low side about 35 PSI and high side about 180 PSI and cycling seems about normal and no lines frosting up and A/C Seems to work normal. If it weren't for the vent temperature being high, I wouldn't even notice anything at all! I am a retired Ford Drivability technician, but I am Rusty on A/C Repairs but experienced at it in the past,
I am wondering if there may be a problem with the new orifice tube, but it is Motorcraft or
if it could have a little too much oil in the system but it should be close to 7 oz. It has got me
wondering what the problem could be? Before the compressor locked up (Lack of oil). It
did not have any problem at all and it put out 40 degrees at vent and now it's 50 degrees.
But 50 is still cold but it lets me know that there is a problem!

Hi,

I spoke with the site owner that has a lot more experience than I related to A/C. He feels confident that you have too much oil in it. He realizes it calls for 7oz, but from experience, it is too much. He recommended removing 2oz to make it a total of 5oz in the system.

That is his recommendation and I do trust him. He is in CA and has seen a lot of A/C systems. LOL Let me know your thoughts.

Take care,

Joe
