Six cylinder two wheel drive automatic 190,000 miles

I changed the timing belt, water pump, and oil pump in my car, got the car to build up oil pressure, tried to start it then all it would do was turn over but never crank. Noticed that when I tried to get it in position to tow, when I pressed the brake pedal with the ignition switch, switched to on, the gear shift selector would not move, only when I would turn the key to almost start it could I be able to press the brake pedal and only then the gear shift would move from park to neutral. Do this sound like a neutral safety switch problem or a brake switch problem?

Could be the brake pedal switch, the solenoid at the shifter or even the ignition switch. But to me the first and most important issue is the none starting. This sounds like an alignment issue with the timing belt. For instance, it is possible that the front cam and the crankshaft are aligned but the rear cam is not. When installing a new belt they must be aligned and after the belt is put in place the engine should be rotated by hand a couple of turns and the timing alignments checked again. They must be perfect. If not, you have to adjust the belt.

Get a starting fluid/ether/better off gas in a spray bottle and spray into the carburetor or the throttle body on an EFI. Did it start and shut off? If not disconnect a spark plug wire or two and ground it to the engine have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, cam and crank sensors.

my car quit running while it was idling, now it will not start. I am only reading 4v going into and coming out of the ignitor unit.I replaced the main relay last year. Is my ECM bad?

Okay, some information first. Do you have fuel coming to the injectors? Do you have spark at the spark plugs? First pull a spark plug and then plug the wire back onto it and put the plug on the engine where only the side of the plug (the hex part) is touching metal and have someone crank it and see if there is spark. If there is put the spark plug back and spray some carburetor cleaner into the throttle body and see if it starts. Lets start with this and see what you find. Let me know and we will go from there.

Yes, I have spark. I also found fuel leak at fuel injectors. Installed new o-ring and washer kit on all injectors. Injectors and ignition coils ohm properly. It also has new battery. Still will not start.

Have you checked fuel pressure? If fuel pressure is low it will not start either. You can check it is fuel problem by spraying carburetor cleaner into the throttle body and seeing if it starts if it does then we need to know what the pressure is.

My car will stall after it has fully warmed up and hit the normal operating temperature. After it stalls, it will not start again until the engine has cooled off. Once it has cooled off again it will start up fine, then after ten to fifteen minutes of idling it will stall and not start again until cold. Help!

Hi junbug0024,

Most probably the PGM-FI relay is faulty causing intermittent failure.

My car will not start. Previous it runs great and at times it will not crank. After waiting approximately twenty minutes it will start up. Now it would not start at all. I checked the fuel pump and it has run after I straight wired it from the battery. It has no sound coming from the fuel pump when you turn the ignition on and listen to the pump. What do I try next?

Hi Alex770,

If the fuel pump is not working, you definitely cannot get it to start.

If the pump does not run, you would have to remove it to check/replace.
