Dear car experts,

I have an Acura Integra LS 2000. The engine light has come on for the last few days. When scanned, it returns a few codes.

P0300, P0301, P0302, P0304 and P1399. I believe the 1st 4 codes are engine misfired or something to that nature. Do you know what the last code (P1399) is? My husband has helped me changed the 4 spark plugs but the engine light is still on. Since the engine light has come on, I've noticed that my car rattles very badly when I stop at the red light or at a stop sign. It makes me very nervous. Any ideas what may be going on wrong with my car? Thank you in advance for your help & time.

P1399 is not a common code and I have tried researching what it means. I am pretty confident that it means it's a manufacturer controlled ignition or misfire DTC.

So it looks like you have a bunch of mis-fires.

Without seeing the vehicle, I would recommend doing a full tune-up. Ignition cap, rotor, spark plug wires, spark plugs (make sure the ones your husband put in were NGK), fuel filter, PCV valve.

This should cure your problem.

P1399 is a temporary code for engine misfires and this is usually found only in V6 models.

Yeah, unfortunately, I get this 1399 code even though my car is only a 4-cylinder one. I took it to the shop yesterday & after hours of diagnostic, they told me that one of the valves has been clogged. They have to take everything in the engine apart & replace this valve & also a major head clean up. They explained to me that this process is similiar to a very very major engine tune-up. It costs $900 & I have to leave them my car for 3 days. I hope after going thru this, my Acura will be great & the rattling goes away.

Misfiring codes requires the problem to repeat twice before a code is set and P1399 is in between, ie the first time it trips and is stored as a temporary code. When the same code occurs again, it becomes a confirmed code of P0300 to P0306 if 6 cylinders.

Too bad the valve is causing the problem. The cylinder head would have to be removed to do the repairs.

Btw the way was a compression test done?

Thanks for your explanation on the codes. Yeah, I did get a bunch of misfired codes. I think the compression test was done (not sure since I don't know anything about car). My husband talks to them.

Misfire codes are usually caused by ignition related components such as igniton coil, spark plugs, plug wires and distributor cap or rotor.

Just hope they got the diagnosis correct about the valve. Keep us posted about the outcome of repairs.

Tjank you and have a nice day.
