Hello,

I have a 1997 Acura Integra GSR. I have two problems with it. First off my check engine light is on. I had it scanned and the guy said he couldnt pull up one of the codes. A friend "jumped it" and he got the same code as the guy that scanned it and got a code 9? I am trying to figure out what it is? So I can fix it for emissions. My second problem is that the car heats up not all the way but heats up more then normal. It also finishes the coolant really fast. I fill it up and in the same month have to do it again. I was told I need a new thermostat but also heard I need a new head gasket? Any help would be really appreciated

Hi DCguy,

Error Code 9 = CYP Sensor intermittent interruption (DTC 1381) or CYP Sensor no signal ( DTC1382)

It is a fault with the distributor.

When coolant is depleting, there are various reasons for it and the after effect is the overheating. The thermostat can cause the overheating but not the coolant depletion unless the coolant is being pushed out of the reserve tank.

1. If coolant losses from reserve tank and radiator, there is a leak somewhere in the system and a pressure test should show where the problems lies, it could be hose joints, water pump, radiator and any of the various passages.

2. If coolant losses is only from radiator while the reserve tank tends to over flow, it is either due to a bad radiator, thermostat cap or a blown head gasket.
