I have a 97 acura integra ls and second gear started to slip, but only when I slow down and going between 25 and 30 mph, and when I hit the gas to go it would slip. So I bought it somewhere to have it looked at and they told me that I needed a new transmission. The guy told me he could get a rebuilt trans for $850. So I let this guy do this and when I got it back it would shift really hard into every gear. Even when it down shifted. So the guy tells me to bring it in and he will look at it. So the night before I have to bring it in, I leave my house, dont even get a 1/4 mile down the road and I heard a like a pop sound but it wasnt loud, so I hit the gas and I have nothing the car just came to a stop. But the motor was still running. So I turned it off and tried to start it and it kicks over but doesnt start. So I just want to know what is wrong with it some people say its the trans some say the timing belt and it seized. If you could tell me that would be great. Thanks kaila

If its the timing belt I do not think it will continue to run before you shut it down with the key.

Try below:

Get a carburetor cleaner and spray into the carburetor or the throttle body on an EFI. Did it start and shut off? If not disconnect a spark plug wire or two and ground it to the engine have helper crank engine over do you have a snapping blue spark? If so you have a fuel problem, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel pump and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing.

Fuel pump and Injector/s checks out-start checking the ignition system-power to coil, coil/s itself, distributor pick-up, control module, cam and crankshaft sensors.

If both fuel and spark is present check the valve and ignition timing, this will lead you to problems with compression and valves opening and closing at the wrong time.
