Hello! First off, thanks for making this site.

My Acura Integra (1990) was in an accident a few years back resulting in the cars CV boot exploding, literally, and dropping the axles on the group. I give you this as backstory.

Now my Acura make a knocking sound that increases with the frequency of the tires. The knocking sounds metalic and only occurs off and on after going over 50 mph for 10+ minutes. I can release and hit the gas sometimes and it will stop, but it eventually comes back. It also only makes the sound when the engine is stressed (i.E. Going up hill, accelerating, etc.).

Secondly, my transmission has problems going into neutral, park, and reverse. For neutral and reverse I have to just jiggle the gear shift a bit. For park, I have to jiggle the shift for up to three minutes. It very annoying.

Any insight you could give me into these problems would be most beneficial and appreciated.

Thank you,
David

Hi David,

Regarding the shifting problem, there are 2 possibilities causing it.
1. Bad shifter cable. Could be bent or damaged at transmission end.
2. Foreign materials lodged in gearshift lever mechanism assy or safety lever out of adjustment.

The noise that you are refering to, if it is coupled with vibrations at times, I would suggest checking the CV shaft inner joints. They could be lacking lubrications. Check for torn rubber boots and excessive side thrust clearance, (shaking the shaft up and down would be sufficient totest).
