Accident damage question

I was in an accident with an approximate 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Another truck the same size as mine. He hit my bed and bumper on my driver side going less than 30 mph. He also went up on the curb little bit. I got a dent and a bent bumper but he is saying that it bent his frame on both sides and is trying to get me to pay for it. I have already paid him $450.00 for a new bumper. So my question is, how likely is it that the frame damage actually came from the accident and wasn't preexisting. Enclosing a picture of my damage. We both drove away with no problem.

Welcome to 2CarPros.

If that is all the damage that was done to your vehicle, it's a bit hard to believe he bent his frame. Also, if he hit you in the rear, is it even your fault?

As far as the frame, I have no idea what type of a curb he it after you, so that is a tough call. If the frame bent that easily, question its condition. Is rust a possible problem allowing something to break on his and bend the frame.

There are too many variables for me to be sure. However. As I said, if that is all it did to your vehicle, I find it hard to believe he bent both sides of his frame. By the way, where is the frame bent?

Let me know.

Joe

The curb that he hit was no more than three inches high. Just a regular curb on a road. I am in the south so rust isn't an issue. The truck was in good condition. He just said the frame was bent on both sides and had to be welded back. He tried to tell me $1,000.00 for damage. And game me some line about the same bumper not taking after its welded and it was going to cost more. I feel like he was trying to get one over on me.

Welcome back:

If the frame needed welded, then he hit harder than either of us would have suspected. However, if the bumper doesn't fit, that isn't your fault. The frame wasn't repaired correctly for it to work, so that is between him and the shop that did the repair. Thus either he pays for the bumper, the shop does, or they fix the frame properly so the original bumper works.

The only thing I can think of is for another body shop check what was done and if the damage was the result of the accident. If I could see what was repaired, it would help me determine if the accident was the cause.

I have never saw any repair bills or anything else like that from him. I haven't even seen the truck since that day.

If he can't provide a receipt for parts or repairs, then no money. If he continues to bother you without providing proof, then you need to contact the authorities.

Kim:

Without something in writing showing that the damage was a result of the accident, I wouldn't pay a nickle. At least if you have it in writing, you can hold the repair facility responsible for any misrepresentation. Plus, if you are paying cash, there is nothing that proves you paid. However, I have no idea who you are dealing with, so be careful. If you feel at all threatened, you really need to have someone like the police involved.

Take care,
Joe
