The fuel door spring on my 2004 F-150 is broken. What is the best way to replace it? Does the entire door assy need to be replaced? If so, how do I take it apart?

p.S. The donation isn't much because I accidentally donated before I asked the question

Hello -

The only thing we show is the below in removal. The best way to see if you can just replace the spring is to check the parts department to see if you can order the spring separately. Then use the below removal info.

I apologize the manual doesn't provide any pics.......

Item 7: Fuel Door Assembly Removal Note
CAUTION: Remove the fuel fill door assembly. Otherwise, damage to the fuel fill tube and fuel door assembly can occur when the pickup bed is removed.
1. Remove the fuel door assembly.
"Â Press in the two retaining tabs on top of the fuel door assembly.
"Â Slide the fuel door assembly out of the pickup bed.

Hello -

Also, it looks like you may have some recalls on your vehicle. The dealer may fix these for free. Please contact the dealer service department, give them the VIN number of your car and have them check on these to see if they apply to you.

There is no recall on it, however the door is known to break. From Ford you get a whole door Assy and is kid of difficult to remove

Hello -

Totally understand about being difficult to remove..... Since it is known to break you would think they would have it easier to change.......

I saw there was no recall on the door itself... These were all of the recalls that we showed for your vehicle if you wanted to check with the dealer to see if they applied to you and if any did they may fix them for free...

Sorry about your door....... Good luck on the change.......
