The accelerator stops working suddenly on motion but the engine still running. To get accelerator work I use to run off for about 30 seconds or a minute and on the engine.

Hello,

This happens when the car goes into limp mode. This guide will help explain more but usually happens when the throttle body needs to be serviced also, we should run the codes.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/reduced-power-limp-mode

and this guide can show you how to get the codes:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/checking-a-service-engine-soon-or-check-engine-light-on-or-flashing

This guide can help walk you through the steps of doing the service and I have included the instructions for your car in the images below.

Please get back to us so we can see what happens.

Hi,

Has the check engine light turned on? I ask because the throttle system is controlled by a drive-by cable. Although the word cable is present, there isn't one. Instead, this is done electronically.

Based on what you described, it could be related to the accelerator position sensor (APP), the throttle body, the throttle position sensor, and so on. If the light is on, we need to scan the computer to see where there is a breakdown.

Because of the type of system this has, I would recommend scanning the can-bus. Can stands for controller area network.

The CAN basically is nothing more than a few wires that connect the different modules together. This type of scan will retrieve codes regardless of the module storing them.

Here is a link showing how it is done:

If you don't have access to this type of scan tool, contact a parts store and see if they can lend you any type of OBD2 scanner so we can at least check to see if something is present.

If you get one, here is a quick video showing how it's done:

Let me know if this is something you are comfortable doing. Based on how this happened, I have a feeling it is related to the APP sensor, but we need to confirm before replacing parts.

Let me know what I can do to help.

Take care,

Joe
