If the compressor is bad, it can be identified by the high and low side pressure readings. Here is a link that shows how AC manifold gauges are used:

If the Freon level was checked, they should know the readings. If you can get that to me, I will have a better idea what is happening.
If we find the compressor and system is working properly, then I suspect there may be an issue with the blend air door. This door is part of the duct work under the dash. In one position, it allows cool air to enter the cabin and the other position, it allows heat to enter. Take a look at this link.

Let me know if you can get the pressure readings so I can review them. There is a chance that the orifice tube is plugging and causing an issue. However, in most cases, when they are dirty, everything stops working. Let me know if you have other questions.
