Problem: temperature gauge on C
Air conditioning blows warm air
Fan runs continuously
Firestone replaced thermostat and temperature coolant sensor at a cost of $500.00.
Still no resolution. Any suggestions please?

Hi,

I'm going to think there is a short at some point. Has the vehicle's computer been scanned for diagnostic trouble codes? Have they checked to make sure all three fan relays are working properly?

If they haven't checked the relays, I would start with that. The system is actually controlled buy the engine control module (ECM). If there is an issue with the ECM or one of the relays, it could cause the fans to run at all times. Since the fans are on all the time, lets start by testing relays to determine if one is bad causing other issues. Follow these directions. The attached pics will help you locate the necessary components.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the high speed fan relay, which is COOL/FAN 2 relay 30.
2. Ignition ON, observe that both fans are now OFF.

If both fans are OFF, replace the high speed relay. If either fan is still activated, remove the low speed fan relay, which is COOL/FAN 1 relay 28. If both fans are now OFF, replace the low speed relay. If either fan is still activated, test for a short to voltage in the fan voltage supply circuit.

These relays are located in the under hood fuse / relay box. I attached a pic of the ones involved and did my best to number them. If we find there is a short to voltage causing the fans to continue running, it may also explain why the coolant gauge isn't working. Try this and let me know what happens.

If you have other questions, let me know as well.

Take care,
Joe
