Its been awhile since I had anything to do with points. Car run about a month ago, not good though. Point were closed, but have gap now. Thing that throws me is the spring shaft has fire, not at point gop. You are right the wires might be touching dist plate. Ill check that, thanks any other thougt let me know. Thanks again.

It has been a while for me too. Check to see if you can locate any shorts in the distributor and let me know what you find.

I moved the wires inside dist. Yesterday, and reset points. It cranked, but have to keep high idle to run. I think the pos wire was touching plate. Also it blowing oil out dip stick seal, on topof cover I hope this is because rubber seal isdry and loose. Think I might need a carb gasket on r. Carb. Let you know more. Later.

When setting the points, did you use a feeler gauge or did you set the dwell?

That sounds like a really small opening for the points. I was thinking around 30. I kept my old dwell meter. Don't get to use it much. Lol I wish I could get it to you.
