I recently put in a clutch and pressure plate because I have a problem. When I try to shift into high gear (fourth) it will not go into fourth right off. I have to keep trying. I had the shifter out and I noticed the pin that holds the shifter in is wobbled out and so is the hole. Also, the shifter goes right down into the transmission. Is there a bushing missing? And I put shifter into transmission in neutral. Is that okay? Someplace I read it should be in reverse. Thank you.

The shifter if anything may have a nylon bushing on bottom of shifter. However if this is gone it would effect all gears going in not one. You probably have either a bent/worn shift fork inside transmission or a the synchro is worn out for that gear.
