It appears, I have a leak from the area where pan mates to underbody under the compressor. I would like to know if I should replace the oil pan or drop pan and clean area and just replace sealant and use same oil pan.

Hi,

If you have a leak, chances are it isn't the result of the pan, but rather a gasket/sealant leak. However, the pan needs to be removed and inspected to make that determination.

If you look at pic 1 below, it explains how to perform an inspection of the pan. The remaining pictures are the directions for the removal and installation of the oil pan. When you reinstall it, make sure to follow the torque sequence and specifications.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

About the sealant, do you let it dry first before mating to underbody? And lastly, what are some likely internal causes that might had caused this?

Hi,

On most sealants, they want you to apply the sealant and attach the component finger tight, so the sealant is gently pressed between the two surfaces. Then they indicate to wait for approximately 45 minutes and torque bolts tight. However, when you purchase the product, it will have directions on it. Not being sure what brand, you will get, it's a good idea that you read the directions first.

As fa as possible causes internally, if there is a component issue and not the sealant, chances are it will either be warped slightly, or it could have a crack in the aluminum.

Let me know how things turn out for you. Also, let me know if you have questions or if I can help in any way.

Take care,

Joe

It's been while, I figure I give the repair a chance to see if it worked. It was not the pan sealant. I tried a product called blue devil sealer and drove car a few days and the leak slowly stopped. So, I think the problem is temporarily solved. Thanks.

Hi,

Thank you for the update. Hopefully, the repair will last a long time. Regardless, I'm glad to know at least for now, it's taken care of.

Feel free to come back in the future. You are always welcome.

Take care,

Joe
