Cylinder 1 misfiring 2 months ago. Replaced coil packs. All 4. Replaced plugs also. Ran real good until last week. Cylinder 1 misfiring again. Coil pack bad again. Replaced that one. Took car up to work, 65 miles, ran real good again. Came out of work started car and symptoms came back. Read code when I got home. Now it was cylinder 4 misfiring. Car runs strong. Good gas mileage when running right. Don't know if I should replace number 4 coil pack now. First set of packs weren't oem's. The last one is oem. Don't get it..

Misfires are hard to diagnose but also most coils not oem seem to have problems, this guide can help you fix it

Please run down this guide and report back.

Just to add to this one, these accents are known for coil packs to go bad on them especially if they're not OEM. They fail internally which is why Hyundai has updated they're OEM coil pack along with releasing an ECM update for the misfiring. If you continue to get misfires, bring it to a pro to do perform a compression test and a leak down test. These valves are also known for carbon buildup which causes misfires.

After my vehicle spending almost 3 weeks in the shop because of a deer, the day we got it back the check engine light came on and the engine misses and chugs. It doesn't do it constantly though. Every once and a while the light will flash and then stay on. However, today it went off but still misses. I had a previous coil pack issue, is it possibly happening again?

It could be a coil or a wiring issue. I'm not sure how the vehicle was damaged. However, since the check engine light was on, I recommend having the computer scanned. It should identify where the problem is coming from. Most parts stores will scan it for free. Have that done and let me know what you find.

My car started off acting like it was running out of gas, I ran some fuel injector cleaner in it because the check engine light was not on. The problem still occurred onto the next day. That day, the check engine light came on. I took it to AutoZone to have them read the code. Which was P0301, also known as cylinder 1 misfire. I automatically changed all the spark plugs, but when I pulled the cylinder one spark plug out, all the ceramic was gone off of it. I turned the engine on and it was knocking and shaking. I then had them read the code again because it was still going on. AutoZone said that it was the ignition coil, so I changed that. That was also not the problem, so I started doing research myself and came to the conclusion it might be the crankshaft position sensor, because I read online the symptoms of that being bad and it sounded identical to my problem, so I replaced that. The problem is still occurring and I am running out of options. Please help!

Have you checked the compression on that cylinder? Any vacuum leaks?

Please are you implying that the valves may be bad by citing compression on the cylinder and vacuum leaks? If so, we are yet to check tha vavles in the cylinder. Thanks.

Hello,

There are a couple of things that could cause this. Worn valve stem seals would let oil be introduced into the combustion chamber and worn piston rings would as well. I would recommend doing a compression test. Please go to this link and go through the guide.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-test-engine-compression

Get back to us with what you find out and that will tell us which direction to go and we will have more specific directions on what to do then. I also included an excerpt from the repair manual on your vehicle for you in the diagrams below.

Thank you,
Alex
