My car died on me while driving a week ago. Garage stated it was the crank sensor. And it was replaced. Also had that replaced 1 1/2 yrs ago. Started vehicle up tonight. It jumped a few times, like it was trying to die. Engine light flickered a couple of times and then went back out.I drove it for a couple of miles to my destination and then back home, did not happen again during the drive there and back. Any ideas as to what the problem could be now with it?

Lets scan for codes and then return here and let me know what the codes are. I will be able to further help with those codes. The check engine light may not be on at this time but those codes will still be stored into the vehicles computer.

These guides will help us get started to help find the problem

Hyundai Accent Viva stalls in very hot weather. Starts again after 1 hour cooling down. Runs for 20 minutes and stalls again.

First thing you need to do is have it scanned for codes.Post the exact code numbers not code descriptions. This guide will help

If keeping the gas pedal slightly depressed works and you do not have any troble codes, the idle control system is not working correctly. Have the throttle body and IAC cleaned. This would usually cure excessive low idling which would result in stalling.

They say it takes an hour before it will restart so doesnt sound like a iac. It would atleast restart sounds like something is getting hot failing and causing it to die while driving.

I was thinking more likely a crank shaft position sensor or something along those lines.

IT sounds like a cylinder misfire. You need to have the computer scanned to identify where the problem is coming from. Most parts stores will scan it for free and tell you the trouble code. From that, you will know what part is the issue.

Let me know if you have questions.

Car starts and runs for about ten miles then it just shuts off. Let sit awhile, few hours, then starts again. Will not start with ether when this happens. Checked for spark after shut off, and am not seeing any. Coil saturation? Or ignition mod? Or what? Coolant is good, no leaks. Vapor lock. Gas cap is good.

I have seen crank shaft position sensors do this on Hyundai's they over heat and shut down. I proved this once with a bucket of water poured over the sensor when it shut down and the engine started up straight away again. Probably not worth going to that extreme. I would be scanning and seeing if there is a CKP code set.

My car starts fine. I will be driving and it shuts down, usually within 5 miles of driving. The car will crank but not turn over. If I wait 30 minutes it will start again and then the car will shut down again like described above. What's the problem?

Hello,

it sounds like the crank sensor is getting hot and failing on you. When the car shuts off and you try starting it again does the tachometer move at all? Has the check engine light come on at all?

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.com.

I do have a couple questions. First, does the check engine light come on and if it has, have you checked for trouble codes?

Often times, a bad crankshaft position sensor will do this. The car will start and run until the sensor gets hot enough and then lose connection and shut the engine down. Take a look through this link. It describes what can happen. Let me know if it sounds like what you are experiencing.

I will watch for your reply.

Hi there,

how is the base idle speed? Does it feel surgey and rough in drive while stopped at lights? If so get the tune checked, including all filters and have the base idle and the idle control motor checked, run a scan to check for any unresolved fault codes, start here.

No fuel cut out switchs that will make the car stall at 50mph. Is the check engine light on? If so have it scanned for codes, this will help pinpoint the problem. If no light, when it is dead you will need to test for spark and fuel pressure to see what is missing so we have a general direction to go in

I own a 2000 model hyundai accent, automatic. I have had it for twelve months and it has spent 6 months in and out of the mechanics. Its problem is when it has a full tank of fuel it shudders and stalls, it is very chunky to drive and has no pick up when you first excellerate you have to pump the excellarator at least twice to get it to move and when it does move it is very sluggish. Has trouble making it up hills. The car runs a bit better on less than half a tank of fuel and I have noticed it goes a bit better when it has been washed or it is raining. I have had a new O2 sensor put on it, a new alternator, new battery, new fuel filter, air filter, fuel pump, full new exhaust system (2inch sports, with extractors)including the catalic convertor, spark plugs. The fuel injectors have been cleaned several times and yet the problem is still yet to be diagnosed. The car has been taken to several mechanics as well as hyundai and is still running like a junker! PLEASE HELP.
