2010 Mazda 3 Had Rear Brake Job Done By Local Shop Only Needed Pads Driving

Had rear brake job done by local shop. Only needed pads...When driving it sometimes gives a loud whistling noise, which will get louder then go away..Comes back 2-3 times then goes away. Have driven car 100 miles with no whistling noise then it comes after driving 10 minutes. Shop check brakes (rear) and said everything looks tight. Thy have had 3 days. Driven it each day and no noise. I drive it on side roads then onto freeway and noise comes back. Any idea/s

There is a tool you might be able to borrow or rent from an auto parts store that borrows them called the "Chassis Ear". It is a set of six microphones, a switch box, and headphones. You clip the microphones to suspect points, then drive around while listening with the headphones. You can move the microphones around to zero in on the source of the noise. Be aware that many mechanics have never seen or even heard of this tool. Suspension and alignment mechanics use it to find rattles, squeaks, and other noises.
