Engine knocking - 2010 Charger 3.5L...lifters? How much will this cost me?

http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=2ag68o&s=7

A mechanic heard the noise & said this -->
Sounds like the shaft that the rocker arm/lifters ride on is turned and broke off the dowel that holds the shaft. This in turn makes it so the oil feeds to the lifter/tappet are blocked and that gives you the tap. The tapping is of course your lifter/tapppet starving for oil. This is unfortunately common on the 3.5L

First, if that is the case, the head needs replaced. In that event, I would contact Chrysler and ask for assistance since the vehicle has low miles on it. Otherwise, you're looking at around 1500 to fix it.

Thanks for your reply. I am not sure if that's the case. This is only his opinion after listening to the ticking noise.

I am now thinking of replacing the engine itself, and not worry about lifters or head. What do you suggest?
Can I get a more efficient engine like toyota or something in this charger? Will it fit? And how much does that cost?
How far are you guys from Canadian border?

Hi:
Sorry for the delay in getting back with you. As far as replacing the engine, no others will fit. You have to use the same exact type that the car came with.

Honestly, I would contact Chrysler and ask for assistance. Do you still have the owner's manual for the vehicle? I would be happy to direct you if you want me to. Also, have you had anyone else listen to the vehicle? There are so many things that can cause this type of noise. It may not even be the engine.

This site is based in Sunny California.

When I added Lucas Engine stabilizer, the noise subsides a lot (after warming up the engine, still can hear the ticking when cold).

I bought it from someone else, this guy deceived me. There is no warranty on this vehicle.

I have had very bad experience here. You can look it up on their site how ridiculous prices they ask for used vehicles, should give you an idea. Almost 7-8 grand more than the blackbook value. Not 2, not 3 grands.
Dealers/Mechanics here in Saskatchewan are not reasonable, they are ridiculous here. That's why it is a problem being stuck here with a mechanic or a dealer after opening the engine.

Oh jeez, that is almost 3000 KMs away from here. It is too far to drive.

Can you tell me what viscosity motor oil you are using? Also, have you tried using the old style STP? Last question, is there any fuel smell from the oil or a creamy tan colored substance on the dipstick or under the oil cap?

Sorry. A couple more popped into my mind. Is there a fuel smell to the oil? Is there a creamy tan substance on the dipstick or under the oil cap? Has oil pressure been tested?

This mechanic changed the filter, and put 5w10 oil from his shop.
And then, there was lot of engine noise.
Mechanic tells me there may be the engine problem, and suggested me to use Lucas engine stablizer in the motor oil that certainly reduced a lot.

I do not know about the oil or any tan substance. I will check tomorrow, and post again.
But I do not know about the oil pressure. How do I check it?

I hope you mean he used 5w30 oil. As far as the STP, you will need to eliminate some oil from the engine so it isn't over full. And yes, engine STP.
