My air conditioner in my yaris was working great, now sometimes when I start the car the air conditioner does not work, sometimes it does, most of the time if it does not work right away it will kick on after awhile it seems to not be working more frequently now. This started about 10 days ago.

You may be a little low on Freon. Outside (Ambient) temps can change the PSI in the system, same as when you drive it and it warms the engine up. If a little low it can do what you are describing. These systems are sealed, you may have a leak, look for alight oil film around the hoses/connectors/front of the A/C Compressor. If all good check relay

Here's something for you to read, it will help

Most likely you have a leak in system.

Check type of refigerant used on sticker under hood, newer Yaris's use HFC134a, which is not available to public.

Air conditioner is blowing cold air from right vents and normal air from left vents. Some time cool air (not cold) from all vents.

Most likely an incorrect refrigerant charge. That needs to be very specific. I suggest you have a shop do an evacuate and recharge with the correct weighed amount of refrigerant.

An AC system that is working OK, needs no service.

Then only thing they could do is vacuum out refigerant and put in new and oil.

They could check pressure and look for leaks, but an AC system that was installed properly should work fine.

Thanks for the advice.

But why do they insist on doing a service? They are the authorized toyota agent in Sri Lanka. They said if I do not do it it will ultimately lead to a compressor failure. Are they trying to make money?

If this stops with the A/C turned off, check for a problem with the A/C compressor it may be seizing up.
