I have been having problems starting up the engine in very hot weather or after the engine has been running for a while. The cold starts have never been a problem. I have also had an occasional, at random, stall at an idol only. Once the vehicle starts and is running it runs well. It does have a manual transmission and if possible, depending on whether or not there is a slope on the stop, I can get it to start up again on a push start with the transmission. This has been going on for a year or so now. What to do?

Does it crank or not crank when it doesn't start?

If it doesn't crank, it's most likely the starter motor that is faulty.

If it does crank, I'd look at your coolant temperature sensor and possibly leaking fuel injectors.

I am concerned about this knocking, i would like you to get the engine oil pressure checked with a mechanical gauge first, lest see what the actual oil pressure is.
