HAD A MAJOR TUNE UP AT 82000 MILES, CAR STARTED MAKING WHINING NOISE SO LET IT COOL OFF CHECK THE OIL WHILE I WAS WAITING ON BROTHER TO COME AND HEAR THE NOISE, IT WAS LOW BUT THE OIL LOOKED CLEAN. HASNT BEEN LEAKING OIL AS FAR AS I CAN SEE NEVER HAVE ANY SPOTS ON THE DRIVEWAY. ADDED OIL BACK TO THE LINE BUT THE CAR STILL HAS A WHINING NOISE THAT SOUND LIKE ITS COMING FROM EITHER THE BACK OR SOMEWHERE AROUND THE TOP COVER OVER THE ENGINE.

I had a seemingly similar problem with my 06. Took it in and told me there was something wrong with the breather box, whatever that is. Seemed to be a simple repair.

It sounds like the oil trap box is leaking. To verify it is the box, with the car running, pull the oil dip stick out. You will hear a load suction noise and the howling will go away. If it does, take it in to Volvo to have it replaced.
The box and PCV hose should be covered under the
10year/150k mile emmisions warranty. While doing that, also have them update the ECM software as well after the repairs if one is available. That should also be covered by a 10year/150k mile extended warranty. If you have more questions, let me know. Also if you have had this repair done already and paid a shop to do it, you could submit your repair order and reciept of payment to get reimbursed for the repair.

I just bought a volvo s40 2005 sport and I think I have a problem with the dstc. When I drive the car for about 300 yards the dstc kicks in and slows me down and stays like that untill I turn it off and then the car drives fine but if I put it on again back to square 1. Any one out there with a possible problem solver
