I have a P2127 code, Throttle/ Pedal Position Sensor/switch e circuit low input. I changed the throttle body and still get the same OBD/DTC message. What could I be missing?

That code is for the pedal position sensor which is part of the gas pedal not part of the throttle body. Here are instructions on how to fix the problem in the diagrams below. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Have saturn Ion 3 computor says throttle positioning sensor bad, changing throttle pedal doesn't fix problem. Saturn dealer replaced all wiring harness said that would take care of problem. Did for about 1 year now problem back. New pedal doesn't fix problem after a few hours light goes off again. Have found out that with cold weather light doesn't go on and everthing works fine until weather gets around 40 degrees than light goes on again. Lost at what to try next because mech. Says computor doesn't how any other codes. But 6038 I think that was the code it shhowed for thorottle sensor

EDs says>code on saturn 2006 P2138 question.
Saturntech9 says>From now on you need to post all your replies on this question it get's confusing for everyone if you start another question to post a reply for this one. Here is the code description I posted the trouble tree for the code too. You will need a scan tool that can read read the pedal position sensor's etc.
DTC P2138

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The accelerator pedal position (APP) sensors 1 and 2 are located within the accelerator pedal assembly. Each sensor has the following circuits:

* A 5-Volt reference circuit
* A low reference circuit
* A signal circuit

This provides the engine control module (ECM) with a signal voltage proportional to accelerator pedal movement. The APP sensor 1 signal voltage at rest position is near the low reference and increases as the pedal is actuated. The APP sensor 2 signal voltage at rest position is near the 5-Volt reference and decreases as the pedal is actuated.

DTC DESCRIPTOR
This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:
DTC P2138 Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor 1-2 Correlation

CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING THE DTC

* The battery voltage is more than 5.23 volts.
* DTCs P0641, P0651, P2120, P2125 are not set.
* The accelerator pedal is leaving the idle position.
* DTC P2138 runs continuously when the above conditions are met.

CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DTC

* The voltage difference between APP sensor 1 and APP sensor 2 exceeds a predetermined value.
* The above condition is met for more than 2 seconds.

ACTION TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SETS

* The control module illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) when the diagnostic runs and fails.
* The control module records the operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails. The control module stores this information in the Freeze Frame and/or the Failure Records.
* The control module commands the TAC system to operate in the Reduced Engine Power mode.
* A message center or an indicator displays Reduced Engine Power.
* Under certain conditions the control module commands the engine OFF.

CONDITIONS FOR CLEARING THE MIL/DTC

* The ECM turns OFF the MIL after 3 consecutive drive trips that the diagnostic runs and does not fail.
* A History DTC clears after 40 consecutive warm up cycles in which no failures are reported by this diagnostic or any other emission related diagnostic.
* The scan tool clears the MIL/DTC.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS

* The ECM compares the signal of each of the APP sensor to each other throughout the entire range of operation. Clear the DTCs and actuate the pedal through the entire range with the ignition ON and the engine OFF.
* Use the J 35616 Connector Test Adapter Kit for any test that requires probing the ECM harness connector or a component harness connector. Using this kit will prevent damage to the harness connector terminals.
* For intermittent conditions, refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections. See: Diagrams Diagnostic Aids

TEST DESCRIPTION

Step 1 - Step 8

The number below refers to the step number on the diagnostic table.

2. Any circuit faults on either APP sensor 1 or 2 will set one of the DTCs listed. Refer to the appropriate table for diagnosis.

Hello, Vehicle: Saturn Ion 2.2 Mileage: 180000 In a very cold night while I was at 50 mph, all of a sudden I got 'Reduced Power Light' on and I stopped, turned the engine off and waited for 10 minutes and re-started again but it didn't go away, anyways I drove the car about 8 miles back home, and check the error codes, here is the list.
(Note that, after 24 hrs. I tried to start the car but it was too shaky and didn't sound like was getting gas and stopped again)
codes listed:

P2122 (Throttle Pedal Position Sensor/Switch D circ. Low input)
P2128 (Throttle Pedal Position Sensor/Switch E circ. High output)

I purchased new AP assembly and replaced with the new one, while I was working I noticed that there was a additional extension on the blue cable with electrical tape and it was broken (this car was serviced with the same problem 3 years ago) for some reason they put some extension cable either to check R or V (voltage) maybe, anyways I reconnected wires with the new pedal, now I'm only getting P2122 with the reduced light on, I took out the new A Pedal and replaced with an other one, still getting the same error, I tried to clear the error with Actron scanner but it won'T go away

How can I turn of that Reduced Power Light?
What else I can do about it?

Thanks,
Kenan

First you have to correct the problem that is causing the code. What made you change the APP?

An online technician in my.justanswer.com advised me to replace the APP.
As I stated before I was driving and I had big size boots for the first time that night, and when I tried to replace the APP I found one of the wires was broken from its extension (Blue cable)

I reconnected the blue wire, Now I'm thinking to put the old APP back and complete 3 drive cycles as you stated in one of your previous posts,
(https://www.2carpros.com/questions/2006-saturn-ion-3-throttle-snsor)
to clear the 'Reduced power light' and error codes
When I hook up the scanner I read
1. P2122 'Confirmed'
2. P2122 'Pendindg'

You think 3 drive cycles would clear the problem? and What should I do to complete one drive cycle?

Thanks,
Ken

That link doesn't go anywhere.

Using the scan tool to clear the code is the correct procedure. The fact that it wlll not clear tends to indicate that the problem still exists. It's going to require some electrical testing to find the real issue.

I can supply a wiring diagram but you need some test equipment and electrical knowledge.

Engine light and reduce speed light keep coming on with the same code repeating even though replaced.

In May I was driving to Florida and my engine light and reduce speed light came on. I was able to continue the remaining hour drive into Florida where I was able to get the car into a shop. They had told me it was the APP Sensor and that it needed to be replaced. I had the part replaced and continued my trip which also included a drive back to Central NY. I had no problems but the pedal seemed to still feel as if I could have the problem again but pushed to the side with my head just worried about the problem occurring again.

After about a month and a half I had the same lights come on and took the car to my local shop. The code came up with the same problem, APP Sensor. I explained to the mechanic what had happened on my trip and said that part was replaced. With that said, this also took me another 2 weeks give or take to even get to this point due to every time I took the car to the shop the lights would not be on and could not find it in history.
I was able to continue driving the car cause I felt there was no way with this brand new part being put in that this could not be the problem, the lights had turned off and I refused to pay to have the car torn apart to fix something that I had just paid $500 to fix.

I continued to have the same problem and returned the car to the shop and this was after monitoring the vehicle with the codes popping up and for the fact that the lights continued to just come and go with no complications of driving.

I have had someone mention something about a 6 or 7 wire harness that my car carries and that they may need to be replaced but again, looking at another some odd hundreds of dollars. I replaced the battery 3 times in one year, new alternator, new windshield wiper motor, new APP Sensor, new throttle position sensor, numerous occasions of the car not starting and not just in cold weather, and a couple of other small problems.
I would love to purchase a new vehicle but I am just not able to. Can someone please help me and guide me in the right direction to save my ION. I love this car regardless of all the problems but I just don't know how much more I can take with this continuing problems.

What is the EXACT trouble code you are getting?

Since problem is intermittent, it could be a wiring fault. A poor ground circuit or loose connections somewhere.

He just posted the flow chart for that code number. It still needs to be diagnosed correctly.

There are 2 sensors and the 2 sensor signals are on therlight blue and dark blue wires.

Other than using a scan tool, you are looking at FORTY drive cycles to clear the code so using the scan tool is the fastest way.

I am no mechanic but I also have a 2005 ion with the same problems. However with one I can be of help the not starting in cold weather is the ignition switch (not ignition) easy fix. But the reduced power no clue still tryin to resolve issue myself. I have replaced the throttle sensor, pedal sensor, fuel filter and much much more on mine. Good luck fellow ion owner!
