Make sure the fluid level is good. Otherwise you will need a trans shop to further help you as the trans may have an internal failure.

It's attached to valve body in transmission here is a diagrams and the solenoid wiring diagrams so you can see the wire color which tells you which one is which. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Transmission shifting not good. When I start it almost goes red line before it shifts from 1 to 2.
When I go to neutral then back to drive it shifts to next postions.
Can't up shift using the + option but can down shift using -. Shifting does not apearto be slipping rathet it does not shift as it should between gears in automatic.

Is there anyway you could get codes checked to see if maybe there is some stored transmission codes. Autozone checks the check engine light but I cant recall if this will get the codes you want

Transmission problem
2003 Hyundai Santa Fe 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic

Just had flush because it was not shifting out of 1st. Dash indicator lights came on with "1" and "2" in yellow - now in green. Reving up to 3-5. Gear lights have never been lit. I have a feeling it is the transaxle control module in the console? Anyone know? It is sporatic - so leads me to believe transmission is not going on me.

Hi Linda,

Autozone provides free scanning services. Get the trouble codes retrieved and let me know the EXACT code so I can understand what is wong.

I have been having transmission problems for awhile now and no one can seem to figure out what the problem is. I was reading about the same issue that others seem to have.

For no real reason the computer will no shift and the truck will go into saftey mode I guess it is. When you can only go between 2nd and 3rd gear. I have had the battery changed and alternator changed bbecause mechanics have said it was a problem with the charging system. It still happens. It is like the truck does not always know when it should shift. I never had this problem until early last year and that was almost a year after I had the transmission looked at and the filter/fluid changed. I have nioticed that when slowing down to about 35 and even 30 the computer will not shift the transmission down to 3rd. It stays in 4th even though the RPMs are around 1200. It just seems like the shift computer is not working right. Would I be correct with my deduction?

Have you ever had the PCM scanned for trouble codes? If ht e PCM ses an issue, it will usually store a code that can helplead to the cure. Shifting issues can be relate dto vehicle speed sensors, or many other sensors or solenoids that can stick within the trans

Hi, I have a santa fe with a shifting problem this morning I pulled out of the drive way and put the car into drive and it said it was in drive aswell as tiptronic sport mode, and would not shift out of first gear, I thought it might be a code error but there is no check engine light checked the shifter to see if the tab might of been stuck on the tiptronic shift option, I figured out how to get it to shift up in gear by changing from drive to neutral and back to drive works fine that way but other then that nothing. Thanks, brad.

Brad, you need to have the linkage checked between the shifter and the transmission. Also, if it is electrical, a warning light should come on. At that point, the computer will need scanned to identify where the problem is coming from.

My engine seems to not being shift gears like it should be. I noticed this morning my window was open and the whole area by the shifter was wet. So I started driving and my engine just keeps revving and not shifting gears. Also, when I put the car into Drive it has a two underneath it like its in sport mode. (Which I did use last night to get out of a ditch). I also noticed while driving it just go down to D 1 for no reason. Before today I have never noticed the 1 and 2 underneath the D and I am thinking it is stuck in sports mode somehow.

Water has probably gotten into the switch. If it was just water, gentle use of a hair drier on the switch area may do the trick. But to get to it you will need to remove the cover.
