My A/C went out on my car. I am wanting to bypass the compressor. But, I cannot find anywhere what size belt it would take.

Hello,

It does look like you can bypass the AC belt if you remove the idle near the alternator.

Here is a guide that will give you an idea on how to remove the belt:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/replace-serpentine-belt

As far as the size you will need to take the original size and go four inches shorter to start. By three or four lengths to narrow it down it will take some trial and error when you find the size it will be good if you could post it to help others. I have seen people take a string and run it around the belt routing to get an idea of the length as well.

Check out the diagrams (below).

Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.

Cheers, Ken

Just ran into this problem as my A/C Clutch Pully is entirely seized up. After several tries with a shorter belt. I landed on the perfect size of 79 inches. I also did not have to remove the accessory driver belt idler pulley (#4 in the image). It fits perfect, no slippage either. Car starts up and runs just fine. I drove over 60 miles the next day with no issue.

How did you route the belt without rubbing on tensioner?

It looks like if you leave the alternator tensioner pulley (#4 in the diagrams above) off the belt will miss the belt spring loaded tensioner.
