Hello,

My car will not start. I tried jumping starting the car and when that didn't work I had it towed to Walmart. Long story short, it's not the battery, in fact the original BMW battery tested "good." When you put the car key in all the lights and every electronic works. However, when you got to press the Start button it doesn't start. It doesn't even whine, turn over, or do anything. The display just shows an exclamation mark. My thought is that the ignition fuse needs to be replaced. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Starters have had a high failure rate in those cars but to be sure here is a guide that will walk you through how to find out whats wrong.

If the starter is bad you will need to remove the intake manifold. Here are diagrams on how to replace the starter below. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.

I replaced a dead battery and the engine will not even turn over. The new battery has been tested as being good. All ignition and warning lights come on as normal but yet the engine will not even turn.

Is it an automatic? Check for juice at starter from ignition key. Either clutch switch or neutral switch could be preventing start circuit from energizing.

Could be a lot of things, guessing aint going to fix it. Have the car scanned with Autologic or a GT-1 clone and see if the EWS fell out of alignment or maybe it just isn't recognizing the key. No crank can mean key failure too.

Could be the starter, starter relay, transmission position switch and ignition switch assuming the battery condition and connections are good.
