Starts then shuts off. When gas is pressed while car is on it doesn't accelerate

When it won't accelerate, does the engine respond in any way? Also, since the check engine light is on, you really should have the computer scanned for diagnostic trouble codes. It will point us in the right direction.

I suspect it is going to deal with the throttle position sensors. However, that is a theory, and we would want to know the codes before we start throwing parts at it.

I realize most people don't own a scanner. However, if the vehicle is drivable, most parts stores will do it free of charge.

Have this done and let me know what codes are stored. It will get us pointed in the right direction.
