I changed the connecting rod bearing on a 2005 honda civic. After changing it, we noticed a few problems. For one, there was a knocking noise. It didnt know when you started it up, or at an idle, but would knock otherwise. Then after driving for about half an hour, the engine would lose power and chug. It seemed to be missing. There was also oil leaking. I tightened the oil filter and all the problems seemed to have dissapeared. Could that have been the problem and why?

If you had low oil pressure, caused by a massive oil filter leak, then yes.
