Front windows not working

A few months ago, my drivers side window would stop rolling back up every once in a while. It rolls down fine, just doesn't want to go back up. After a few minutes of repeatedly pressing the button, it would go back up. Then one day, it went down and refused to go back up so I took it to a shop and they replaced the motor and regulator. It worked fine for a month or so and now the problem is back. Not only that, now the passenger side window will not roll up from the driver side buttons. I have to use the passenger side buttons to get it back up (Rolls down fine). What's the matter? And if I take it back to the same shop will they charge me again?

Hello,

It sounds like the main window switch has gone bad but to be sure here is a guid to help you test it and the window wiring diagrams below so you can see how the system works.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Either the power window fuse or relay has blown.

First you would need to check if any of the motors have failed. If they had gone out one by one, the motor may be the fault but if all went out at once, it would most probably be an electrical fault and the most likely would be the master switch.

Activate the lock-out switch to see if there are any differences. Test each window separately.

You have a break in the wires between the door and body pillar which can occur over time. The breakage is most likely to be internal and you might not see any external damage.

One way is to tug each wire with a little force to see which gives way.

Hold the switch to go down. Then bang on the door panel by the armrest. If it starts working the window motor is bad.

Hi I had the same issue as well but up to now I am not sure how it was resolved. I think there was something that got stacked and caused the power windows to stop working. But one thing I noticed though it returned to normal when that side of the door was accidentally bumped. I think that shake up the broken piece.

I have a 2005 chevy Malibu classic, the other day my son was pulling fuses while the car was running to replace the cig lighter fuse. All of a sudden my power windows stopped working. We have replaced the 25 amp circuit breaker and it still made no difference. Do you have any suggestions as to what it could be? We have tried all of the doors to get them to work and none of the controls are working. And also nothing else electrical has been affected. Thank you for your help.

Try removing the negative cable on the battery and re installing. It will re boot the bcm and may bring it back.

My windows stopped working all of a sudden after working the night prior. My left turn signal does not work after changing bulbs with new ones. Battery is good but when emergency lights are on for more than ten minutes I need a jump. Someone told me it might be my alternator. I guess I have to take it to a dealer.

Have the alternator checked and also have the dealer check for body control module codes. There also may be an issue with that module also.

I have a 2003 Malibu and the right side window has quit working. I'm guessing the motor has died but is it possible there is a fuse that is dedicated to that window alone? That would certainly be a lot easier fix.

No you would have to make sure the window motor was getting power and ground. Can you hear the window motor make any noise when trying to roll the window up or down?
