Today the automatic locks stopped working. I now have to manually lock all 4 doors. Will this be an expensive fix?

Check fuses under hood by using this guide with the door lock locations in the diagrams below.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-a-car-fuse

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.

My lock button on driver door does not work for locking but it does work for unlocking. The manual lock works either way as well as passenger door works. To lock all of my doors simultaneously I have to reach over and use the passenger door button and it will lock all doors.

I checked fuses and they were fine. Also my side mirror button doesn't work and neither does my rear windshield fluid dispenser or my car fob.

Try changing battery on key fob otherwise it needs to be scanned tosee if power is being sent to door lock on drivers side. Check the switch on the mirror for power to and the switch andmirror. It amy be amotoro in mirror. Same for windshield dispensor

I have a 2005 Chevy Malibu which was purchased used from a respectable dealership. I have had not trouble until now. I tried to unlock the doors with the remote and it would not work. This was a little strange because it worked a couple of hours previously and the battery in the remote was only a couple of weeks old. I tried unlocking the door manually but my key would not turn. It would not unlock the trunk either. I called the dealership and they suggested that I would just have to have it re-keyed. I went back to the car about 10 minutes later and the remote worked fine. However, this morning the remote would not lock or unlock the doors. The switch inside the car works fine. Any suggestions?

Sounds like an anti-theft problem, most likely the BCM. Does the car start and run ok once you are in it? Is th esecurity light on?

Yes the car starts and runs fine once I get in. I just replaced a fuse for the power outlet(cigarette lighter). I'm not sure if since it's power locks that maybe it blew a fuse? The security light does not stay on once the car is started. Thanks for your reply!

You can try recoding the remotes, but it sounds like either a BCM problem or the receiver for the remote locks. Might want to have it scanned (BCM) to see if it detected a failure

Well we figured out it's actually just the remote. There was a component that was broken inside it. However, that still does not explain why the key won't open the door. Thanks again for your help!

I bet your problem is with one lock switch. Usually the drivers on fails as your window would be open and water can get into it. If you can disconnect it and see if the problem still occurs

Sounds like the door latch is the issue. Here is a guide that will help with removing the door panel:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/door-panel-removal

Once that is removed, below are the instructions on how to replace it.

Let's run through this material and go from there. Thanks

Look in your manual where the relays and fuses are. Check to see if your relay is sticking by replacing a similar relay and see if that cures it. Otherwise it may be a computer problem orkey fob problem.

My wife's 04 Malibu is now having the door locks going up& down by themselves multiple times in a row, without her pausing the button. You can be driving down the road and it will just start doing it. The shop I took it to is having a hard time tracking it down. Has anyone seen this before?

Along with the above, tail light issues. Believe after reading research is related to BCM. I understand you must have a BCM matched to the VIN (ECM and PCM follow). I read where in other cases of sticking brake lights to lube the BCM C2 connector with the appropriate lube. Will you confirm this for me and detail some do's and or do not's? Please

Hello,

Before condemning the BCM for this issue I have seen the driver side door latch micro switch short out causing the locks to lock and unlock rapidly. With the car on push and pull on the drivers door with it closed to see if you can get the system to act up. Here is a wiring diagrams for the door locks and the location of the BCM.

I would try a used one it might plug and play if not you will need to get it programmed by a shop it should cost about $130.00.

Here are the door lock wiring diagrams and the location of the BCM to help you see how the system works.

Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what happens.

Cheers, Ken

O, my passenger doorlock switch works to unlock, but I guess it was broken cause you cant push it down to lock, its already down as far as it goes, like it was smashed down or something, but you can push it up to lock, ok. Wellmy question is, the driver side doorlock switch is the problem, the switch is ok with pushing it up and down, but there is no power in it, when you click it up or down it doesnt do anything, no noise or anything.I tried the fuses and even the relay but that didnt do the job, I tried a couple different techniques like holding the buttom up or down while opening and closing it to see if it locked but no, so I guess that takes away the wiring being messed up, but not possitive. Is there anything I can try to get it to work, or do you already know whats wrong with it, and if so how do I fix it if possible. Ty and hope to hear from you guys soon. Rj
