The oil gauge on my 2006 chevy express 2500 van spikes to 60 on the gauge. The oil level is ok. When I shut off the motor it goes down to 0. Then once the vehicle is started again it jumps right back up. Could the gauge be bad.

Sounds like the oil pressure relief valve is sticking closed

Check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge, if normal replace the oil pressure switch. If abnormal could mean oil pump and engine bearing.

It sounds like you have a bad stepper motor in the gauge. They have kits on Amazon to replace the motor but they need to be soldered in if you do not wish to do that then you can have the cluster rebuilt. Here is a video that will help you see what you are in for and how to get the cluster out.

Please let us know what happens.
