My battery is mounted in the trunk of the car. The negative terminal cable attaches to a screw on the car's body next to the battery. My battery went dead after 6 years and when removing the battery, I found that corrosion had eaten through the clamp screw that attaches to the battery terminal. So I needed a new cable as well. I bought a new battery at an auto parts store and instead of going to the dealership to search for the new cable, I purchased a cable and a terminal connector at the parts store and fashioned a new one. My question is, the new cable is 4 gauge and much thicker than the factory cable. Will that cause any problems or damage my battery or electrical system?

If it is a heavier gauge, it will be fine. If it was lighter, it could cause problems.
