Fan Control Motor inoperable on Speed 1 but works on 2-5? Is this the resistor? Do I need to replace the blower motor?

That is my first guess, the resister. Check that first. If it doesn't fix it, check for problems with relays. Here is a guide to check the blower motor and resistor with instructions in the diagrams below to help show you on your car.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what you find.

Is the blower motor not operating at all? Or only operating at certain fan speeds?.. Let me know and I will be of better assistance.

You may want to first check the fuses/relays. Another issue may be the blower resister is faulty.

If you feel it is just the blower motor itself that is faulty, below are removal/installation instructions for the component.

REMOVAL:
Remove the right closeout panel.
Remove the blower motor wire harness connector.
Cut out the blower motor using a utility knife in the narrow groove of the lower case (FIG. 1)

FIGURE 1

https://www.2carpros.com/forum/automotive_pictures/261618_0900c15280094d67_1.jpg

NOTE: Cut through the case as straight as possible because the motor cup must be replaced.

In order to prevent damage to the component, do not cut any deeper than necessary to remove the motor cup.
Remove the blower motor.

INSTALLATION:
Install the motor blower seal. (FIG. 2)

FIGURE 2

https://www.2carpros.com/forum/automotive_pictures/261618_0900c15280094d67_2.jpg

Install the blower motor.
Install the blower motor attachment ring if reusing the blower motor.
Tighten the blower motor screws, and tighten the screws to 13 lb inches (1.5 Nm).
Install the blower motor wire harness connector.
Install the right closeout panel.

Hope this helps..

The blower motor is not working on any speed, it has a low humming sound, therefore I thought it wasn't a fuse but the fan itself.

Thanks for your help. When we removed the motor cover it had a build up of ice in the bottom of the right close out panel, we thawed out everything and connected the motor blower up again and low and behold the fan blew on all speeds. To insure everything dries out and thaws I am letting the car run with the heater on for an extended time.
Thanks again second time you guys have gotten me out of a car problem.

Air Conditioning problem
2005 Chevy Malibu 6 cyl Automatic

My Blower remains on after the car is turned off. I have to disconnect the battery and reconnect when I want to drive my car again. I have been told there is a problem with the module. How much could something like this cost to fix?

If the module does need replaced than an estimate is below for that repair.

i suggest having a second repair shop look at it to ensure it does need the module replaced and not just a faulty relay or something else.

I have a 2005 Malibu Maxx LS. The fan for the heater/AC only works on number setting 3 and 4, not on 1 or 2. I replaced the entire control assembly with one from a salvage yard. It was tested and worked before I bought it. This did not fix the problem. What else could it be?

Wife said the A/C wasn't cold, so I charged it. Three days later she said it was making a wierd noise. I heard the noise, so I took out blower. There was some debris and something I couldn't identify. Anyway, had blower running while out, A/C was on, no noise. Put it all back together, took for a drive, all seemed fine. Next day wife says the noise is back no air from vents. It looks like the belt needs replacing, could it be the tensioner making noise or just or the blower is going bad? Will take blower out again, probably didn't get the tube on correctly

What does the unidentified item look like? If it is plastic, it may be a door has dropped from the HVAC case. This would explain the vent issue. Please provide a little more info, and I'll be glad to help. Doc
