Air conditioning was evacuated and recharged one month ago and worked great. They got it to
about 58 degrees at idle. Over the course of the month it has slowly lost the ability to cool.
If the car was at rest overnight it cools somewhat. If it is at rest sitting in the heat, it will cool a little bit,
but barely anything.

Can you tell me if this is most likely a compressor issue or a leak? Can I continue to recharge it to get
through the summer months to save on costs?
Thank you

Almost surely a leak. In most states the law requires when any service is performed on an AC system, it has to be checked for leaks, and if any are found, the refrigerant must be removed. The system can't be recharged until the leaks are repaired.

To lose the charge in a month would require a pretty big leak. Adding that much refrigerant is going to get expensive, then you'll still have the same issue next year. At least start with a leak-check so you know if the cause is expensive or an easy fix.
