So my car has been shutting off while driving. It's just loses all power and I have to put in neutral to start it again. I took to Nissan today and had it put on the computer. The catalytic converter is going bad and it showed I need a negative cable to hook to my battery. Spark plugs and wires. Could any of those things cause my car to just shut off while driving.

Thanks,
Heather

I would think if you are losing the ground to the battery, it would shut down the electrical / ignition system. I think this guide will help us fix it.

Please run down this guide and report back.

I would suggest waiting until the ground cable is replaced to see if that takes care of the problem. A disruption in electrical supply to the power control module can cause this to happen. If it still does it, then we will need to check to see if the fuel pump pressure is within the manufacturer's specs.

Car over the last few weeks has developed a stalling problem. When slowing down to stop or taking off from a complete stop the car stalls out. You can typicaly put the car in N or P and it will start back up. Anyone have any suggestions in what might be causing this?

My daughter's car shuts off while she is driving. She has told me the car shuts off both at a stop and while driving, the e-brake light comes on and the it shuts down and comes to a stop. Today she was at a stoplight and check engine light came on, it started to move then all the dash lights came on brake, check engine, ABS etc. The tachometer went to red then o then back up to red then normal then the engine shut off. She was able to start it after a few minutes and she pulled in into a lot. When I got there and drove it, it responded fine. Start and stop fine, accelerated up to 100 fine, then I stopped and accelerated trying to trigger and all was fine. Ground wire on the battery looks corroded. Thoughts?

Since the check engine light was triggered can you scan the codes and post them on here so we can have a starting point to assist. Here is a link on how to scan it:

I have a 2002 nissan sentra GXE with the small motor. It has 120K miles and it is a manual tranasmission. While driving the car will simply shut itself off. The symptoms of when it will happen are as follows:
1. When you ease off the gas the car feels as if brakes are applied.
2. The car bucks and the check engine light flickers, rpm gauge drops to zero and then comes back up. Almost as if the engine shuts off then bumps starts itself.
3. Engine shuts off and you have to turn the key back then restart which it does every time.
I recently had several sensors replaced due to a recall but the problem persists. Personally I think the computer is going bad because when the computer is checked the problems are not found. Thanks for your help!

Car starts and runs fine for several miles then dies at cruising speed with out stuttering or making any strange noises, Once you let it set 5 to 10 minutes you can then restart the car. Car does not do this every time you drive it. Thank You.

Hi, It sounds like your having a problem with the crank position sensor, but in order to be sure, the fuel and spark will need to be tested when this happens, I know it will be a little tough, to pull out tesing equipment while on the side of the highway, but we need to test these two things in order to find out what is wrong. I am thinking the crank sensor. Or a possible intermittent fault with the fuel pump. Fuel pump regulator, and fuel pump relay will cause the same symptoms.

My nissan sentra dies sometimes when it is put into gear. Other times it tries to stall while driving. It kind of drives jerky when it is trying to stall out. What could cause this and why?
