I have a 2003 Honda accord with 124000 miles, 4 cyl, is the drive belt (not timing belt) an item that has to be replaced at regular intervals or do you just inspect it? Is it easy to replace? What are you looking for to inspect it. The manual shows a picture of a pointer but it's very hard to tell what to look for. Thank-you

Hi Jmarto44,

No, external drive belts are only replaced as and when necessary but then they would start emitting squeeking noise after a certain period of use. Things to check for are deterioration of the quality of the belt rubber ( cracks, tears, etc)

Replacement is not difficult but proper adjustment is important for durability and won't cause premature wear to driven components.

Hi fubar420,

Here we go.

DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT
Special Tools Required

1. Belt tension release tool Snap-on YA9317 or equivalent, commercially available. Move the auto-tensioner (A) with the belt tension release tool to relieve tension from the drive belt (B), and remove the drive belt.

Hi jeanie3383,

If the starter is not cranking with the dash lights staying on, it could be a faulty starter motor, security system or faulty ignition switch. Check if starter solenoid wire is secure. Is the security light ( green key symbol ) blinking at this time?

The labor time for replacing the drive belt tensioner is 0.7 hour.

$ 19.88 = Serpentine Belt

The price for drive belt tensioner is not available in our database.

Was driving to ruston louisiana from baton Rouge which is a 3 hour drive. About an hour in I heard a pop and the battery light the break light and all the door lights came on. Kept driving for about an hour and then my dashboard went out so I pulled over and got a tow all the way back to my house. The bride belt wasn't there when I looked under the hood and the power steering belt was still attached. The car also started up after I turned it off when I tried to start it. My question is ifor the dashboard only went out because the belt wasn't on. Or did I completly screw up my battery and engine. P.S. I replaced the battery and alternator about 2 months ago

Best thing here Is to replace the belt and tensioner as recommended at 60000 miles. Then start it up and see what you have.

Hi,

We would be happy to help. However, I have a favor to ask. I need you to start a new post with your model year, make, model, and engine size so we can get the right information for you.

We ask that you start a new post because of the difference in model years from the original post. We try to keep it specific to one type of vehicle so that it is helpful to others. I hope you understand.

Here is the link to start a new post. Copy and paste your question and someone will help. Please make sure to include the engine size.

https://www.2carpros.com/questions/new

Again, I hope you understand.

Take care,

Joe
