Oil Pressure has suddenly jumped up from 40 to 80. This is even after engine has warmed up. It has even gone higher than 80. Oil was changed about 2500 miles ago. I checked oil and had to add little over a quart of oil just yesterday. What could be the problem and resolution?

Chances are the sending unit is bad. You can get a mechanical gauge and check to see if your electric one is correct. Most parts stores will lend you a gauge and it screws into the same place as the sending unit is located in. Let me know what you find

I have a 2003 Silverado with 85,000 miles that runs perfect. The other day out of nowhere when I went to start the truck the oil pressure guage maxed out before I ever even started the engine (the key was in on position just before turning over motor) I thought they did not get oil pressure until the truck was on? Also once I turn on the engine and the truck is running the guage stays maxed out. I am not sure what to do about this as the oil seems fine and is changed regularly the truck is still running fine. Does anyone have any ideas I would greatly appreciate any input. Thanks so much

Most likely gauge has gone bad. They have a stepper motor that can be replaced by someone who knows how. You can get the gauge sweep tested with the proper scan tool. This very common for gauges in gm trucks. Their are people making a living fixing these things! Complete new dash/gauge assembly is pretty expensive!
