Am considering purchase of 2003 Camry XLE with 47,000 miles. There is a sticker on the timing belt housing that appears to indicate that the belt has been replaced. I have CarFax but no detailed, itemized description of the service performed.
Since I don't have access to the owner's manual, does the timing belt need replacement based on MILEAGE only? If so, how many miles is recommended for replacement of the timing belt?

Or is TIME the determiner? If so, what is length of time for replacement? Thanks!

On 1998 & later models, replace every 90,000 miles or 72 months.

CarFax doesn't have all records, only services performed at the dealer. I would go by the info on the sticker. This is not an interference engine so you don't have to worry about damage if it breaks.

I understand that Car Fax is only as good as the people providing the info to them.

I will call the servicing dealer to determine if they did the work. I will have access to the original owner's phone number and perhaps I can glean some additional information. The car is being sold by the second owner who has had it only for a month.

Thank you for the info re: 90,000 miles or 72 months. I very much appreciate it
