The thermostat has been replaced and the temperature was working properly for about three to five hours and now the temperature gauge is drastically rising again there is plenty of antifreeze what would be the next thing to look at as it is Sunday and repair shops are closed.

More than likely there is air in the system or something more serious like a head gasket issue.

So we need to start with using a temperature laser meter to find out if the engine is actually getting hot.

The next thing to do is pressure test the system to find out if it will hold pressure. Here is a guide that will help with this. If it does not then we need to find where that pressure is going.

Here is a general guide that will help with overheating as it will help us with next steps.

Lastly, we need to find out if this is a head gasket issue by following this guide as well.

Once we know where this takes us we will have a better idea what the issue is. However, just in general, air pockets, sensor issues, or head gasket issues are the most common issues that cause this.

Thanks
